Drill depth gauge
— a special device, usually in the form of a rod on the body, fixed parallel to the working tool. This rod can be extended so that when the desired hole depth is reached, it rests on the surface of the material being processed, preventing the tool from moving further. This makes it much easier to drill/chisel holes to a given depth: You don't have to constantly take control measurements, and the risk of exceeding the required depth is almost eliminated.
