Theoretically, this can be a dial built into the case, but in fact, watches displayed on their own display are much more common (see the relevant paragraph). At the same time, this function can be supplemented with other features related to the countdown — for example, an alarm clock, a stopwatch and/or a timer, or even a calendar.
