Chlorine for the pool
Chlorine
— a chemical product containing a high dose of active chlorine. It is used for disinfection, algae control, and cleaning swimming pools from organic contaminants. The active chlorine in such products effectively eliminates "unwanted flora and fauna" and oxidizes and neutralizes organic impurities that cause water cloudiness and unpleasant odors. There are two types of such products: fast (shock-chlorine) and slow. The first type is used, in particular, when the water is heavily contaminated or there is no time for prolonged cleaning; they dissolve quickly, providing a "shock dose" of chlorine. The second type dissolves slowly and is used for everyday disinfecting.Nowadays, chlorination is the most popular method of water disinfection. This is primarily due to the low cost and good effectiveness of chlorine-containing products. With proper dosing, water with such additives does not have the characteristic chlorine smell and does not cause irritation. More information on dosing and the specifics of chlorine use can be found in specialized sources. However, some people have individual intolerance to such additives; for them, active oxygen may be an alternative (see the relevant section).
