To use such a tripod, you need a table or other relatively flat surface that is at a sufficient height — for example, a window sill or a car hood. In some situations (for example, in nature), it may be difficult to find such a surface. On the other hand, table tripods are much more compact and lighter than floor tripods, they are extremely easy to transport and are indispensable in cramped conditions where there would simply be no room for a floor stand.
