M-DISC
M-DISC discs
— media made using M-DISC technology. This technology is used to create discs with an extended shelf life; it can be either DVD or BD. Anyway, M-DISCs are intended for a single recording and subsequent storage of information for a long time: the manufacturer claims safety for 1000 years (although when the temperature rises to 90 °C, such a disk turns out to be less resistant than a regular one). Such properties are achieved due to a number of design differences from conventional DVD and BD. So, the working layer in M-discs consists of a special inorganic substance that is resistant to oxidation and high temperatures. In addition, conventional discs have a reflective layer, if damaged, data reading failures occur, or even their complete loss. There is no reflective layer on the M-DISC, making them less susceptible to scratches from the non-working side.
Note that M-DISC is normally readable on a conventional drive of the appropriate format (DVD, Blu-ray), however, to record such media, you will need a device that is initially compatible with this technology.
