Toothpastes and rinses with chlorhexidine

With chlorhexidine

— an antiseptic component used in courses to reduce gum inflammation and bacterial load, such as in cases of gingivitis or after procedures. Chlorhexidine is notable for its noticeable effect but is not intended for continuous use: prolonged use may cause undesirable effects like changes in plaque color and taste perception. Unlike xylitol, which is suitable for daily use, chlorhexidine is more "as needed" and for a limited period. Thus, a mouthwash with chlorhexidine is used for 7–14 days as recommended by a dentist, and then one returns to normal care.
