Hysteresis is the difference between the on and off temperatures of the controller. See "Minimum hysteresis”, and here we recall that a small value of this parameter provides accurate temperature control, with minimal fluctuations. However, it usually requires frequent switching on and off of heaters. It leads to increased wear and fuel/electricity consumption. Conversely, a large hysteresis value gives more significant deviations from the set temperature; however, the operation of the entire system is more gentle and more economical.

Thus, in regulators from this category, the customer can manually change this parameter, adjusting the automation to his preferences and the specifics of the situation. At the same time, the adjustment range can be quite extensive: in some models, it is 1 ... 20 °C, or even 1 ... 30 °C. The reverse side of these advantages is the complexity of the design and the increase in the price of regulators — in comparison with analogues with a fixed hysteresis. In addition, in domestic use, such fine adjustments are not required so often. Yes, they may be useful for users who are sensitive to changes in air temperature; however, adjustable hysteresis automation is better suited for more specific applications, such as maintaining a warehouse that may periodically store different contents, with different requirements for temperature control accuracy.
