— the two digits used in the IP marking indicate the level of resistance to various types of influences: the first indicates the degree of protection against foreign objects and dust, the second — against moisture. This same level of protection is actually the maximum of those that can be found within the general purpose. The first number "4" here means protection against objects with a thickness of more than 1 mm (in particular, thick wire), and the second "four" indicates the ability to retain water splashes from any direction.

Note that increasing the level of protection inevitably affects the cost. Therefore, it makes sense to pay attention to this option mainly in cases where additional reliability is of fundamental importance — for example, if a frame is purchased for a switch in the bathroom.
