The name "flying disc" very accurately describes what a frisbee is. This is a disc with curved down edges; such a projectile, thrown in the right way (with rotation and at a slight angle to the horizon), is capable of flying a fairly long distance. All this also applies to frisbees for dogs, so the main purpose of such toys is fetching games; while the ability to long flight provides additional interest in such games.

Frisbees for dogs differ from ordinary flying discs "for people" primarily in materials — they must be safe for animals and resistant to constant bites. In addition, such products often have a characteristic design.
