Half choke collars

Half choke

— a variation also known as martingale (martingale). The main name is due to the fact that such a collar has separate features of a “noose” (jerk, see the relevant paragraph), however, it provides a less intense impact and is not intended for training, but mainly for constant wear in combination with a leash.

The half-choke usually consists of two parts — a long one, with two rings at the ends, and a short one, which connects these rings and serves to attach the leash. Thanks to this design, when the leash is jerked, the collar is able to tighten, but only to certain limits, ideally, clearly up to the thickness of the animal's neck. This is the main difference from jerk collars, which allows you to use martingales in everyday wear. At the same time, this design provides a number of advantages over products with a fixed size. So, the half-choke is very easy to put on and take off — it does not need to be unfastened, the size is usually enough so that the dog's head can crawl through the collar in a fully stretched state. At the same time, the slightest jerk of the leash narrows the collar, preventing it from flying over the head; and while the leash is not stretched, the martingale lies freely on the neck, without creating inconvenience. Many dog breeders consider this design to be almost perfect for walks with a leash, and nowadays, half-chokes are very popular among both amateurs and professionals.
