I got in my head that I wanted a real, professional microphone from a well-known manufacturer. Well, why not, we only live once. Saw it, wanted it, got it. I chose the Rode Podmic as a great balance of price and quality. I also got the Audient ID4 Mk2 and was very pleasantly surprised. Before this, I used a relatively cheap USB microphone and let me tell you... after this, I'll never look at USB ones again. Recordings without noise, streaming is perfect (if only my voice were pleasant). It's truly a podcast microphone; it doesn't add anything to your voice, nor does it take anything away. It captures your voice plainly, which is great because it's much easier to perfect the sound in post-production. The construction is solid, made of metal. At first, I found its appearance a bit strange, but now I'm just in love with this metal cylinder. The microphone is quite heavy, so it requires a sturdy stand or pantograph that can hold considerable weight. It's also demanding for an audio interface, as without a decent amplifier, it’s hard to drive. With the right settings and an audio interface, it's a great alternative to the well-known Shure SM7B. I have had this device for six months. I use it with an Audient evo 4 sound card. Very good and rich sound. It sounds similar to the "shure sm7b" and "512 audio skylight," but they cost quite a bit more. When recording with this microphone, the high frequencies slip out; they are almost inaudible, but you can get used to it. The microphone is very beautiful compared to other models at this price. Like all DYNAMIC microphones, this device is much quieter than CONDENSER ones. Therefore, it's necessary to purchase microphone preamps if needed. I recommend getting the "DBX 286s" microphone preamp. The microphone is heavy, almost weighing a kilogram. Thus, you need to buy a good pantograph. The body is heavy and sturdy, and you immediately feel that it's not a toy. Look for a strong boom arm or table stand for it right away. Spring ones for 300 UAH won't hold it. It effectively blocks out unwanted sounds in the room, so you don't need to catch perfect silence every time—a significant plus for home use.
It works equally well for work calls, streaming, and recording videos. Yes, it's not a "plug and forget" option without adjustments, but if you need stable, predictable sound, it's definitely worth the money. I'm satisfied and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. Maybe someday I'll switch to the Podcaster.
