Without show-off
In the headphone market, competition is now extremely tight, so every manufacturer is trying to somehow stand out due to fashionable technologies, unusual colours or non-standard functions. Philips seems to have overslept all this time and in the summer of 2019 released the TAUN102 Bluetooth headphones, which now seem to be a stronghold of conservatism. According to Philips, the success formula is based on three turtles as old as the world — convenience, reliability and high-quality sound. These are daily headphones for those who want to immerse themselves in music without being distracted by fleeting trifles.
Maximum convenience
Let's start with the first one. The housings of the emitters are made of metal and are compact enough to fit in small ears. Phillips emphasizes that these earplugs will appeal to girls suffering from ear discomfort caused by conventional vacuum headphones. The headphone cable is made in the form of a flat and dense “noodle”, not prone to tangling. The design does not require a case, and it is impossible to lose the earphone: the earbuds are attached to each other with magnets, which allows you to wear them around your neck like a necklace. But the control panel could be more comfortable, the keys are not quite small for us and are hard to find out of habit. In terms of battery life, we have quite standard 7 hours. The housing is IPX4 splash-proof.
Bright, cheerful, coloured sound
Now about the sound. The Philips TAUN102 pleasantly surprises with its sound quality, it is somewhat reminiscent of a heavily coloured hi-fi sound. Headphones interestingly mask the shortcomings of the recording, consciously bringing to the fore all the advantages. For example, during a test listening to the Royal Blood album, the headphones interestingly tinted the snare drum and lead guitar, as if making them larger and more voluminous. This was especially noticeable in the area of the lower and upper middle. Given that these are never monitor headphones that need a dry and honest sound, Philips TAUN102 get a solid five from us for their enthusiasm.
