The original e-book by ONYX is an advanced-class solution that combines the features of a reader and a smartphone. The model visually resembles a modern mobile phone, as it has a 6.13-inch display, comparable dimensions including a slim form factor (8.8 mm), a water-resistant body, and a moderate weight (less than 200 grams). For making calls, it includes an LTE module with a slot for a SIM card.

Additionally, it includes a GPS receiver, a 16-megapixel camera with a flash, and a pair of microphones with noise cancellation. As an e-book, the ONYX BOOX Palma 2 Pro features a paper-like, eye-safe E Ink Kaleido 3 screen with color images, 1648x824 pixel resolution (in monochrome format), and touch control.
