Quality build

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f / 3.5-5.6G ED VR is assembled in a sturdy plastic case with a metal docking “module” wrapped with a rubber seal. From the controls on the "body" of the lens, there are the usual zoom and focus rings, as well as a manual and auto focus mode switch, along with a control slider for the built-in image stabilization system.

Effective stabilization

According to the "passport" data, the stub in the assets of the model can compensate up to 4 stops of exposure when shooting handheld or in low light conditions. This means that the user has the right to count on obtaining a high-quality result when shooting at shutter speeds up to 1/15 s. And here we are talking about the telezoom position. Against the backdrop of a modest "floating" aperture, it looks like a breath of fresh air in the hot summer heat.

Hooked and forgotten

With the sharpness of the lens, things are on the "five with a minus": in the centre of the frame everything is fine with an open aperture, and over the entire field of the frame, the best result can be obtained at f / 5.6-11 aperture values. Taking into account the universality of focal lengths, it was not possible to do without flaws in the model. Vignetting at open apertures and visible distortion at a wide angle are classified as such. However, giving preference to the lens, you get a solution from the category of "hooked and forgotten". No need to change optics and capturing the most diverse scenes in the field of view — these two points completely level the negative side of the coin, exposing the zoom lens in the light of the preferred version of the universal lens for every day.
