The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router combines the capabilities of three devices. First, it acts as a built-in wireless access point that provides high-speed connection to the network of Wireless-G (802.11g at 54 Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11 Mbps) devices. There is also a built-in 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch operating in full duplex mode to connect Ethernet devices over a wired network. You can connect PCs directly or connect additional hubs and switches to create a network of the desired size. And, finally, the built-in functionality of the router ensures the operation of the network and makes it possible to organize access to a high-speed Internet connection (cable or implemented using DSL technology) from all devices connected to the network.
After connecting computers to the router and to the Internet, direct communication between these computers, sharing resources and files is also possible. All computers can share a printer, which can be located anywhere in the house. In addition, all kinds of files — music, digital images and documents — can be shared from all computers. This allows you to store your entire music collection on one computer and listen to music from anywhere in the house. You can store all of your family's digital photos on one computer, making it easy to find the photos you want and making it easy to copy to CD-Rs. When a computer's disk space runs out, you can use the free disk space on another computer.
The new auto-configuration feature simplifies the configuration of wireless devices. To automatically create a secure, encrypted wireless connection, all you need to do is press a button on your router and on another wireless device that supports SecureEasySetup. Data and privacy are protected through the use of TKIP and AES technologies, which use industrial-grade 128-bit encryption. The router can act as a DHCP server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your computers from unauthorized access and most known attacks over the Internet, supports VPN pass-through, and can filter Internet access for network users. With a configuration interface accessed through a web browser, advanced configuration is completed in minutes.
