god of War

After the announcement of the Radeon RX 5xx line, Asus traditionally rolled out several modifications for each chip. The model in question is named after the Greek god of war Ares and is essentially a modification of the already powerful RX 580 ROG-STRIX gaming card. However, it is not only the unusual name that is interesting here, but the fact that with a higher power, AREZ-STRIX turned out to be even a little cheaper and gradually forced the younger model out of the market.

Best in everything

Given that the card is top-end, the list of its advantages is quite impressive: a reliable 8-phase power subsystem based on Super Alloy Power II elements, an efficient and fairly quiet cooling system with three fans, RGB lighting with ASUS Aura Sync synchronization, and a couple of connectors for connecting additional system fans. And this is despite the fact that there are already three coolers here, instead of the standard two.

Fast and cold

Naturally, Asus made such a fuss not in vain, the card out of the box operates at a frequency of 1380 MHz (we are talking about the core), but with the right approach it can accelerate to 480 MHz in the core and up to 8816 MHz in memory. This is an increase of almost 10%. The cooling system handles with such overclocking without any problems, holding the bar at 64 °C and not turning on more than 75% of its capacity. The noise is moderate. A big plus is that all overclocking profiles can be saved in the proprietary GPU Tweak II utility and switch them if necessary. If you don’t want to bother with manual overclocking, then in the utility you can select one of the ready-made profiles (“Silent”, “Gaming” and “OC”), two of which activate factory overclocking.

Big and expensive

However, it was not without its downsides. The map turned out like a Rolls-Royce - big and expensive. Its length is almost 30 cm, it occupies 2.5 slots, so before buying it is worth checking with the size of the motherboard and the dimensions of the case. Well, the price is almost the same as that of the older model RX 590.
