Agate

— semi-precious (precious ornamental) stone of the second order, one of the fine-fiber varieties of chalcedony (which, in turn, is a variety of quartz). "Classic" agate has a layered structure, which forms a characteristic pattern on the cut with alternating light and coloured layers. Coloured layers can have different colours, grey-blue shades are the most popular. In addition, other types of stones are sometimes called agates — in particular, varieties of chalcedony without a layered structure, but interspersed, and even plain stones (most often green). Agates are quite common, affordable and at the same time have a rather attractive appearance.
