Like sapphire, ruby is not only mined naturally, but also synthesized artificially. Due to this, this stone is found both in expensive and in very affordable jewelry. At the same time, even the high cost of earrings does not mean that natural stones are inserted into them — the price may be due to other factors (quality of work, metal composition). But if ruby earrings are inexpensive (at the level of analogues with agate, onyx, etc.), this definitely means that the stone is synthetic. At the same time, it should be noted that artificial rubies are often indistinguishable from real ones when viewed with the naked eye.
