— this type of mechanism provides a flexible spring, with which the backrest is connected to the seat; this spring is usually enclosed in a plastic casing. The only adjustment available in such designs concerns the change in rocking stiffness: by increasing or decreasing the degree of compression of the spring, it is possible to influence the force required to move the backrest. Most freestyle seats are in the low-cost class.
