This is the most advanced variant: this mechanic provides not only a link between force/velocity and sound dynamics, but also high resistance with a characteristic tactile response. Simply put, these keys give you a feeling that is as close as possible to playing on a real piano. On the other hand, hammer action is not cheap, and the mentioned reliability of sensations is important mainly for demanding professional musicians, while for most users an active keyboard is quite enough (see the relevant paragraph).
