VVG wires

— perhaps the most common of the modern varieties of electrical cable. Marking VVG stands for "external PVC insulation, core insulation too, flexible cores." The number of actual cores in such a wire is usually from 2 to 5, they are usually made of copper, can have different thicknesses and be either monolithic or stranded (starting from a cross-sectional area of 25 mm²).

VVG cables are used for laying networks with a current frequency of 50 Hz and voltage up to 1000 V. They are most often used for the electrification of residential apartments and private houses, and are often found in industrial premises.

Note that VVG has several specialized modifications. This paragraph most often refers to the original type of such cable described above, but there may be exceptions. Types VVGng and VVG-Png are listed separately in our catalog, for more information about them, see the relevant reference items. Here we will touch on some other common varieties of VVG:

— AVVG — aluminium is used for conductors instead of copper. This somewhat reduces the cost, but worsens performance and limits the possibility of using such a cable compared to the original copper.
— VVG-P — the cable has not a round, but a flat section, due to the arrangement of the cores in a row. This improves flexibility towards planes.
— VVGz — has an additional insulating PVC filler between the cores and the outer sheath (in the original VVG, this space is not filled with anything but air).
