Petrol engines of small power are usually started manually, using a cable. However, for heavy powerful units, this method is poorly suited, they provide a starter for starting — a small electric motor that scrolls the engine shaft, allowing it to enter the mode. Specifically, battery power makes the starting system as autonomous as possible: the starter can be used regardless of the presence of outlets nearby, and the battery, if necessary, is recharged directly from the running engine. On the other hand, the presence of a battery affects the cost and weight, and the mentioned battery life is required relatively infrequently. Therefore, this starting method is much less common than mains-powered starters (see the relevant paragraph); Basically, heavy models are equipped with batteries, designed for long-term work "in the field", away from the mains.
