— lead-acid batteries using gel electrolytes, known as GEL batteries, are best suited for cyclic operation. This means they are ideal when the battery needs to power a load for an extended period, discharge almost to zero, recharge, and then provide long-term autonomous power again. However, for standby mode, in which most UPS systems operate (remaining on standby for long periods to provide brief power support in case of a power outage), this technology is not well-suited for several reasons. Therefore, purchasing such batteries makes sense only when the UPS needs to be activated almost daily, such as in unstable networks with frequent and prolonged power outages.
