— one feature of washing machines is the ability to automatically balance the drum during the spin cycle. Washing machines equipped with an unbalance control system can detect uneven distribution of laundry within the drum, and attempt to redistribute it evenly by rotating the drum in the opposite direction. If the imbalance persists after several attempts, the machine will either reduce the spinning speed or stop spinning altogether to prevent damage to the machine.
