Diagonal tyres for ATVs

— tyres of this design have several plies of cord (usually an even number). In this case, the cord threads are located at an angle to the direction of rotation of the tyre and are laid crosswise: each subsequent layer is directed in the opposite direction relative to the previous one. This design is considered optimal for cross-country driving: it allows the tyre to easily adjust the contact patch to the surface features, as well as transfer multidirectional deformations and heavy loads on the sidewall. But for high-speed driving on flat surfaces, such a cord is not suitable: at high speeds, a constant shape of the contact patch is needed, otherwise the car becomes unstable. On the other hand, for most ATVs, patency is generally more important than speed, which is why most modern tyres for such vehicles are made precisely diagonal.
