Carafes

— a traditional carafe (damask) looks like a thick-walled bottle (round, square, faceted, etc.) with a narrow high neck and a glass stopper; however, modern decanters may differ somewhat from this. Anyway, such a vessel is intended primarily for serving or short-term storage of strong alcoholic beverages, less often wine. The narrow neck allows you to pour the contents in small portions, and the cork, although it does not close hermetically, however, quite effectively prevents evaporation. However, models without cork are also produced — they, for example, are often used in bars and restaurants, where the contents of a decanter served on the table are poured and drunk rather quickly, and a cork would only interfere.

Another type of decanter is a vessel with a relatively wide neck, intended mainly for soft drinks. However, this variant has not received much distribution.
