— a special lint-free tool for careful sensor cleaning of a camera when dust spots or smudges are visible in photos and cannot be removed with regular blowing. It is used for dry or wet cleaning: the swab glides over the surface with one smooth motion, removing dirt without leaving lint, but it requires careful handling — without applying excessive pressure and with clean hands, and with wet cleaning, it's important not to use too much liquid. Unlike cotton swabs or random wipes, this is a safer tool because it is specifically designed for the sensor and does not scratch it when used correctly. Sizes are usually indicated as Type 1 / Type 2 / Type 3 (for different sensor formats), so the swab is chosen by type to ensure cleaning is done in one pass without streaks.
