Bait catapults
Bait catapults
— devices for casting bait over short and medium distances — usually up to 30 – 40 m, depending on the power of the gum and the skills of the fisherman (with some tricks — up to 60 m). By design, they are similar to classic slingshots, they consist of a base in the shape of the letter Y and a bowstring made of elastic tape or a tourniquet fixed between the "horns" of the base. In addition, a "heel" is usually provided in the middle of the bowstring — a detail in the form of a saddle or a bowl into which the charge is placed; this detail gives additional convenience and promotes accuracy. In general, such devices are somewhat inferior in range to many other means of casting — such as rockets for boilies (see the relevant paragraph) or catapults. On the other hand, slingshots are noticeably more convenient in many aspects: for example, they are noticeably more compact than catapults and do not require an additional rod, unlike rockets. In addition, with a certain skill, with a slingshot, you can easily throw lure under low-hanging branches or in another limited place.
