All line outputs are designed to transmit an analogue audio signal to other system components — for example, an audio receiver or active acoustics. The most popular type of connector for this output is RCA, but some phono preamps provide XLR outputs. Their main advantage over RCA is the use of a balanced connection, which virtually eliminates cable interference even over long cable lengths. In addition, the connectors themselves provide a tighter and more reliable connection. However, they are more cumbersome, and therefore they are mainly used in fairly advanced audio equipment, including phono stages of the middle and top classes.
