Windows 7

— the oldest supported desktop Windows to date, which at the same time remains quite popular — at the end of 2015, it was the "seven" that was the first among the operating systems used to access the Internet. It was introduced in 2009 and actually became the successor to the popular Windows XP (instead of the failed Vista). It uses the Aero interface, can be used on devices with touch screens. In the line of operating systems from Microsoft, it is considered obsolete, newer Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 are actively promoted instead. In fact, Windows 7 is still sold only for specialized systems, as well as outdated computers that are not compatible with more advanced versions.

This system is available in 6 editions, 5 of them are available for sale (the Enterprise edition is available only under a corporate license):

— Starter — the least functional and, accordingly, the cheapest edition. Does not have a 64-bit version, does not support the Aero interface, is not capable of using more than 2 GB of RAM, is not compatible with some multimedia codecs; even the ability to change the desktop background and visual style is not provided in this version.

— Windows 7 Home Basic. The second in terms of functionality edition of Windows 7, created specifically for developing countries (based on cost reduction due to limitations in functionality). Distributed with geographical restrictions, cannot be activated outside the region for which it is intended. Unlike Starter, it already has a 64-bit version and supports up to 8 GB of RAM, but the visualization settings are still not available.

— Windows 7 Home Premium. A fully functional version of Windows 7 for home use. Distributed without restrictions on regions, has all the capabilities of the Aero interface, recognizes up to 16 GB of RAM and multi-touch touch screens. The toolbox includes Windows Media Centre.

— Windows 7 Professional. An advanced edition designed for small businesses as well as advanced users who lack the features of the Home Premium edition. In addition to the capabilities of the latter, it offers support for a number of special network tools, as well as the ability to install up to 192 GB of RAM.

— Windows 7 Ultimate. A complete edition of Windows 7, which includes absolutely all the features generally available for this OS. Features only available in Ultimate include support for BitLocker and BitLocker To Go encryptions, a UNIX environment emulator for running applications, as well as advanced personal account settings, up to the choice of different system languages.
