Such a drive has a noticeably larger capacity than the built-in memory of the device, it is usually suitable for storing a large amount of files that occupy significant space — footage, print layouts, materials from a scanner, etc. To upload such materials to the drive in advance and working with them directly from the plotter can be more convenient than using an external PC — especially if such a computer is often unavailable (for example, due to mismatched work schedules for printers and designers). On the other hand, such functionality is relevant mainly for powerful performant plotters, and the presence of a built-in drive significantly affects the cost. Therefore, this feature is found mainly in fairly advanced models.
