— an aluminium film applied to the bottom of the mat significantly increases its thermal insulation properties. On the other hand, it also increases the cost of the product, and in relatively inexpensive models, such a coating peels off rather quickly, and the rug loses all its advantages.

For self-inflating models, additional thermal insulation is usually not required, therefore, mainly mats and picnic mats are equipped with aluminium foil (see "Type").
