Smart doorbells with Zigbee communication protocol

Zigbee communication protocol

— "Smart call buttons" communicate with the home through an energy-efficient 2.4 GHz mesh network via a hub and nearby repeaters, making the signal stable even through several walls, and the battery in the button lasts longer than Wi-Fi counterparts. Unlike Bluetooth, the Zigbee call does not depend on the proximity of a smartphone, and it differs from Z-Wave by frequencies and a wider selection of compatible devices. A hub is required (Aqara, Tuya, SmartThings, Home Assistant with an adapter), but events are processed locally and quickly. Support for Zigbee 3.0 and AES-128 encryption improves compatibility and security; the device can be integrated into Google Home/Apple Home and sometimes into Matter via a bridge. In practice, this means instant push notifications, "silent mode" at night, a light flash in the hallway when pressed, video camera auto-recording, and a gate opening by scenario; it's important to remember that Zigbee transmits the press event, not video stream — video usually uses a separate Wi-Fi/wired camera.
