Leash

The leash is an additional suspension used to attach the hook to the main fishing line. The material of such a suspension and its purpose differ depending on the intended production. So, when catching peaceful fish, the leash is made of fishing line, less strong and thick than the main one. The meaning of this design is, first of all, so that with a “dead” hook, most of the gear can be saved: the leash breaks earlier than the main fishing line, as a result, only a hook remains under water, which can be easily replaced. In addition, with the right colour of the leash, it also performs the function of camouflage (although some experts doubt the real need to specifically hide the tackle).

In turn, when catching predatory fish, the purpose of the leash is fundamentally different — it does not allow prey to bite the line. Therefore, leashes for such fishing, on the contrary, are made of durable reliable materials — up to steel and titanium wire.

Anyway, buying a hook or jig head with a leader can be more convenient than preparing such tackle by hand. On the other hand, experienced fishermen most often prefer to just prepare the leash on their own — this allows you to choose its material, length and other properties at your discretion.
