Although more accurate and faster than armpit measurements, these oral thermometers are better suited for individual home use rather than clinical settings with multiple patients. The requirement to keep the mouth closed during the procedure imposes limitations, making them unsuitable for severe colds, maxillofacial injuries, etc. The normal temperature range under the tongue is 36.6 – 37.2 °C.
