This input is used to connect external sound sources, such as an MP3 player or a computer sound card. The sound from such a source is played through the speaker of the combo amplifier (or through headphones, if they are connected), while at the same time a guitar with all processing functions can be used with it. Thus, you can, for example, turn on the rhythm guitar part on the combo amplifier and play a solo part with such accompaniment, or even try to play along with your favorite musical composition.
The specific type of jack used as a line input may vary; there are, in particular, mini-Jack 3.5 mm, Jack 6.35 mm, RCA and balanced XLR. Some combo amplifiers have several line inputs at once, with different types of connectors.
