Hybrid combos

 

— a hybrid usually refers to an amplifier that combines transistor and tube circuits. For details on these varieties, see the relevant paragraphs; here we note that such a combination allows to a certain extent to combine their advantages and compensate for their shortcomings. So, hybrid "combos" compared to lamp ones are cheaper, weigh less, are not as delicate and have fewer lamps that require regular replacement. At the same time, in terms of sound quality, “hybrids” are somewhere in the middle between transistor and tube devices: the sound does not reach a full-fledged tube one, but it has a characteristic colour and turns out to be more pleasant than that of transistor models.
