— recorders supporting H.265+ codec.A codec is a technology used to compress video; without such compression, the footage would have an unnecessarily large volume. And H.265+ is a modification of the H.265 standard developed by Hikvision, but also available for other brands.
The original H.265 codec is described in detail in the corresponding help item. And its "plus" modification was created specifically for video surveillance systems and has a number of related improvements. For example, H.265+ algorithms allow you to automatically divide the space in the frame into two areas — the active surveillance area and the static background; a typical example is a framework for the passage of visitors with a fixed space around. At the same time, for each area, you can use your own video processing rules, further optimizing the video stream and stored materials. So, in the active zone, the compression ratio is made relatively small and the image is transmitted with a sufficiently high bit rate, which improves the quality and detail; while the still background image is compressed noticeably more strongly, or even broadcast at all only in the first few frames, and then only data on moving objects is included in the video stream. H.265+ also allows you to optimize the broadcast in time: based on data for a certain period (usually a day), a conclusion is made about what hours the activity in the frame is minimal and the bitrate can be reduced.
Thus, specifically in registrars, H.265+ support allows you to significantly optimize the footage and reduce their volume. Even compared to the original H.265 (which itself is a very efficient and advanced standard), the savings in storage space when using H.265+ can reach 60 – 70%. However, note that if the registrar works with IP cameras, these cameras must also support H.265+, otherwise the use of this standard will be impossible.
