— gear elements that cover the elbow and part of the forearm to cushion the impact when falling and protect the joint from abrasions and "punch-through" on asphalt or dirt. Inside, there is usually a hard cup or dense insert, while the outside is secured with elastic sleeves or straps, so elbow pads are important not only for their material but also for fit: they should sit tightly and not rotate; otherwise, the protection will shift aside during a fall. Examples of use include roller skating or skateboarding for beginners, casual biking in the park and courtyards, or trick training where falls are inevitable, and it's better to "slide" on the cup rather than scrape the skin.
