This device allows for the emulation of manual mechanical gear shifting to enhance immersion and realism in games. It is positioned as a mid-range product. Unlike its senior counterpart, the TH8A model, the body of this controller is mostly made from durable plastic instead of metal.

However, key and heavily loaded elements remain metallic, such as the gear shift lever and internal mechanism. The ThrustMaster TH8S Shifter Add-On uses a classic H-pattern shift scheme, including 7 forward gears and one reverse. The use of magnetic sensors instead of potentiometers ensures high precision and a virtually unlimited service life of the mechanism.
