PreSonus PRM1 Precision Reference Microphone for Audio-Analysis

PreSonus' PRM1 Precision Reference Microphone is a special type of condenser microphone that provides an accurate reproduction of a room's sound characteristics for use with audio-analysis tools such as real-time analyzers (RTAs) and spectrographs. Since it is a condenser mic, it requires phantom power. The PRM1 also features an all-metal chassis a... morend comes with a clip, a foam windscreen, and a hard case.About Reference Microphones: A reference or measurement microphone is condenser microphone that is designed to provide an accurate reproduction of a room's sound characteristics for use with audio-analysis tools, such as real-time analyzers (RTAs) and spectrographs. While measurement microphones can be expensive, the affordable PreSonus® PRM1 delivers high-quality results. The PRM1 employs a 1/4" pre-polarized electret-condenser capsule and has an omnidirectional polar pattern, meaning it is equally sensitive in all directions. This allows the microphone to measure reflections, as well as direct signals, providing an accurate depiction of the room. This mic can handle up to 132 dB SPL and exhibits linear (“flat”) frequency response between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, so it won't color the sound.About Linear Frequency Response: A microphone with a linear frequency response captures all frequencies equally within its specified response range, neither boosting nor cutting frequencies, so it accurately reproduces the incoming signal. This makes it ideal for measuring what a room or speaker is doing to the outgoing signal in a sound system. The PRM1 has a narrow dynamic range, since it is intended to receive test frequencies, such as pink noise, at a fixed level. Therefore it is not recommended for recording purposes. But it's the right mic for tuning a sound system to reproduce those tracks accurately in a room. While the PRM1 can be used for a variety of measurement applications, such as MLSSA™, Spectrafoo™, and TEF™, it is especially recommended for use with PreSonus Virtual StudioLive™ software with Smaart Measurement Technology™ and PreSonus StudioLive 24.4.2 and StudioLive 16.4.2 digital mixers. With this combination, you can have a complete, powerful, and affordable, audio-analysis and correction system.About Using the PRM1 with Smaart®: VSL's Smaart System Check Wizards step StudioLive 24.4.2 and 16.4.2 users through the process of viewing the frequency-response trace of a venue, calculating and setting delay-system timing, and verifying output connectivity. To use them, you need to connect a measurement microphone to the StudioLive mixer’s Talkback input. That's where the PRM1 comes in. With the PRM1 mic, a StudioLive mixer, and VSL with Smaart, it's easy to do tasks that once required extensive engineering know-how.Pre Sonus PRM1 Features:1/4", pre-polarized electret-condenser capsuleLinear frequency response between 20 Hz and 20 kHzOmnidirectional polar patternLow noise, low distortionAll-metal
