- Timing modes: High-speed sync (Super FP mode), slow sync, second-curtain sync
Powerful electronic flash Olympus FL-50 with a variety of modes, high speed synchronization and numerous accessories designed specifically for digital photography. The guide number of the FL-50 is GN 28 at 12mm (equivalent to 24mm on a 35mm camera, ISO 100) and GN 50 at a focal length of 42mm (equivalent to 85mm on a 35mm camera, ISO 100).
The flash has three modes - TTL auto, auto and manual. Normal sync speed is 1/180 sec. In addition, the FL-50 has a Super FP mode. Unlike conventional flashes that close the aperture for fast sync, Super FP fires the flash from the moment the shutter opens until it closes completely, so forced flash can be used even in very bright light and at the fastest shutter speeds. Synchronization is possible over the entire shutter speed range - even at 1/4000 sec.
The flash illumination angle is automatically adjusted in several steps to suit the image area when the zoom level is changed. The built-in diffuser can be used for wide-angle lighting at a focal length of 8mm (equivalent to 16mm on a 35mm camera).
The flash has an AF-assist illuminator to increase the far AF range from 7m to 10m.
In addition to Alkaline AA batteries, the FL-50 uses a Li battery LB-01, a high-capacity power supply SHV-1 and a flash power grip FP-1.
