Updated universal closed-back over-ear headphones (4th generation of the legendary Marshall Major line) with combined connectivity and built-in microphone. They can connect "wirelessly" using the energy-efficient Bluetooth 5.0 interface or through a traditional coiled cable with a 4-pin mini-Jack 3.5mm connection. Different from the third generation model, they have improved sound quality (with significantly enhanced midrange detail) and dramatically increased autonomy, reaching up to 80 hours.

Marshall Major IV headphones are positioned as a high-end product capable of satisfying demanding users. They feature the brand's distinctive and easily recognizable "rock-n-roll" exterior design, a foldable structure, and high build quality. The carefully crafted, practical foldable design ensures a comfortable clamping level and good passive noise isolation.

Thanks to the soft ear pads, they do not cause noticeable discomfort during prolonged wear. Equipped with quality 40 mm dynamic drivers capable of fully reproducing a wide frequency range from 20 to 20,000 Hz. They are suitable for listening to high-quality audio recordings of various musical genres and directions, and notably excel in reproducing rock music. For volume control and playback management, they are equipped with a convenient branded joystick.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Marshall Major IV headphones are praised for their excellent sound quality, featuring a warm sound with elastic bass and clear audio. They are designed with a stylish, retro-futuristic aesthetic and are made from high-quality materials, offering a comfortable fit without pressing on the ears. Users appreciate their remarkable battery life, lasting up to 80 hours on a single charge, and the convenience of USB-C and wireless charging. While they lack active noise cancellation, they provide good passive noise isolation, though some users note they are not ideal for noisy environments like public transport. The headphones are lightweight, foldable, and come with a detachable cable, making them versatile for various uses. However, some users find the control button placement and initial comfort level require adjustment. Overall, the Major IVs are highly recommended for their sound, design, and autonomy, especially for music lovers and those seeking a reliable, long-lasting headset.

As for me, the headphones are very decent, but keep in mind that the ambiances are square

I used the previous model before and in general they are similar. The control module is presented in the form of a single button, or rather a lever, and I personally find it convenient. Some people may find the shape of the headphones uncomfortable in the first days, but then you get used to it. The headphones themselves are quite light and well assembled. Also, when turning it on/off, I personally really like the sound of the bass guitar.

Again, some may find them uncomfortable at first. It's possible to accidentally switch a song by touching the control button, but this happens rarely.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase. But it will take a long time to get used to.

As always with Marshall -- excellent battery life. The claimed 80 hours is no problem. Moreover, the headphones are versatile. Suitable for any music genre, any audio. Personally, I even use them for sports. The headphones isolate external noise very well. Much better than the Marshall Major II. USB-C and wireless charging are a delight. And yes, they can be charged and used at the same time. The ear cushions and headband won't fall off like in previous versions. Very well made, quality materials. Good microphone, although a bit quiet.
Compared to the Marshall Major II, the form factor is much worse. Now the headphones press against the head rather than the ears themselves. I suppose I'll get used to it over time, but initially, it causes significant discomfort. As I understand it, this was done so that the headphones wouldn't become loose like in previous versions, but honestly, I was quite satisfied with the second versions.

There's an insanely strange sound when turning on, off, connecting to a device, etc. For some reason, Marshall thought bass guitar sounds would fit well. But no, although melodic, they're very distracting. I don't know why they changed it from previous versions.

Now the volume control and power button are the same button. I found it convenient to use different buttons. Moreover, the volume control button is now on the other ear, which requires getting used to again.

The cable now has no microphone. The cable is, as always, of high quality, but it’s strange that they skimped on the microphone.

Marshall Major IV is all about style and freedom from the wall outlet
12 December 2025
Bought them about a year ago because I wanted something stylish and that wouldn't need charging every day like my TWS. I was choosing between them and Sony, but the Marshall design won out.

These are headphones with character. In short: I love them, but they're not perfect.
The battery is unreal. The manufacturer claims 80 hours, and it's true. I charge them once every 3–4 weeks even though I listen to music on my way to work and in the office. Over the year, I've forgotten where their cable is. There's wireless charging (place the right ear on the "puck"), which is also convenient.

Joystick control. This golden button (Control Knob) is a brilliant thing. No touch sensors that malfunction in the cold or from accidental touches. Press for pause, sideways for the track, up/down for volume. Everything is intuitive and reliable.

Design and build. They look more expensive than they are. The "leather-like" texture, the Marshall logo—it's classic. They fold compactly, toss them in a backpack and don't worry about them breaking (though there's no case included).

Sound. This is subjective, but for rock, alternative, instrumental—they're excellent. The bass is springy, guitars sound juicy. It's not audiophile level, but they convey the "drive" wonderfully.
Pressure on the ears. These are "on-ear" headphones, they press against the ears instead of surrounding them. For the first two months, my ears started to hurt after 1.5 to 2 hours. Now the earpads have softened a bit (or I've gotten used to them), but you can't wear them all day. If you wear glasses, it will be even more challenging.

There is no noise cancellation (ANC). There's only passive isolation. On the subway, you have to crank the volume up to 80-90% to drown out the noise of the train. If you're looking for complete silence, this isn't the right model for you.

Microphone. It's just "for show." You can have a conversation in a quiet room, but outside, if it's windy, your conversation partner will hear noise instead of you. I don't use them for Zoom calls.

Material of the earpads. The faux leather is pleasant, but in the summer, your ears sweat under it pretty quickly.

The Marshall brand is a recognized benchmark in the world of musical equipment. Headphones of the Major line are one of the most popular in the model range of the legendary British company and have been pleasing connoisseurs of good sound for more than 10 years. In 2020, the manufacturer has already introduced the 4th generation of the Major, and we simply could not ignore it.

In your style

Major IVs retained Marshall's unmistakable aesthetic. These are all the same vintage square, slightly rounded bowls embossed under the skin in black or brown, connected to the headband with a practical metal shackle.

The model sits extremely comfortably on the head and does not press at all: you can leave it on for a long time, although in summer it can be hot due to the dense leatherette covering the ear pads. The bowls are foldable, but not swivel, however, due to their compactness, this does not create a problem for storage and transportation.

Convenient control and connection

The headphones are equipped with two wires — USB-C for charging and a detachable 3.5 mm one, so that you can listen to music the old fashioned way, and also share it with friends by connecting to other headphones.

On the right "ear" you can find a charging port, an audio jack and a joystick — a traditional brand control element for volume, track switching, pause and voice assistant. The power/sync indicator is also hidden here.

natural sound

Major has a very solid sound. Unlike many other headphones, they do not seek to embellish the music, the compositions sound as authentic as possible. These are real headphones for music, although they can easily be used to watch videos, there is no out of sync between sound and video. Voices are heard clearly, and explosions are booming.

The microphone is also good. The interlocutor will hear you legibly in a quiet environment, but with ambient noise, the quality of speech transmission will predictably fall.

Miracles of battery life

Battery life in Major IV beats all records — 80 hours of listening to music on a single charge. At the same time, it will take only 3 hours to charge, and in 15 minutes they can be charged for 15 hours of listening, in addition, the headphones are perfectly friendly with any Qi standard wireless charger. Although, frankly, it would be better instead of fast charging, the manufacturer worried about ANC. Moreover, the battery life of the model is already excellent, but the lack of noise reduction is definitely a disadvantage for Bluetooth headphones in 2021.

Despite the very good passive noise isolation and volume margin, listening to music in the subway or on a busy street in Major IV will be problematic. However the problem is solved by paying a $100 surcharge, or rather, by purchasing a Marshall Monitor II, but in this case you will have to sacrifice chic battery life. Such is the dilemma.

In general, the Marshall Major IV are great headphones for music lovers. Their main advantages — external authenticity, sound and long battery life — outweigh the disadvantages, making them completely insignificant.
