Cordless tool to replace Makita corded jigsaws
The manufacturer claims that the Makita DJV180Z cordless jigsaw is exactly the same power as the popular Makita 4350FCT cordless jigsaw, which has a 720-watt motor. They are indeed very similar in characteristics and “stuffing”. Moreover, between them there is almost complete compatibility in terms of spare parts - a huge plus in terms of maintainability. Like the "prototype", the Makita DJV180Z jigsaw can make very deep cuts (135 mm) when working with wood, as well as saw non-ferrous metals (up to 20 mm thick) and steel products (up to 10 mm). To speed up the process of sawing relatively soft materials, such as boards, plywood or OSB sheets, you can use the pendulum mechanism during operation (it has four steps, one of which is the complete shutdown of the pendulum).
Details about the design and equipment
The jigsaw has a well-balanced design and a comfortable D-shaped handle with rubberized inserts. There are plugs at the back of the case for quick access to the brushes (like any other power tool with motors of a traditional design, over time the brushes wear out and need to be replaced). Saw blades from 76 mm to 180 mm long can be inserted into the keyless chuck. It is allowed to use not only original Makita files, but also any others, as long as they have T-shaped shanks. The frequency of saw blade strokes in the entire working range (from zero to 2600 strokes / min) is changed using the start key. The built-in LED illuminates the cutting line well. The solid cast sole is made of an aluminium alloy. It has holes for a parallel stop (you can find it in the Makita tool accessories catalog). A plastic pad (included) can be worn over the sole so as not to scratch materials with a “delicate” surface.
Jigsaw as part of the Makita LXT system
The tool comes with three files with different types of teeth and an adapter for connecting a vacuum cleaner (some vacuum cleaners, like the Makita DCL184Z, can run on the same batteries as the jigsaw). The battery and charger need to be purchased separately. Any 18-volt Makita LXT series battery will fit the jigsaw (they have a capacity from 1.5 Ah to 6 Ah). The manufacturer recommends using batteries with a capacity of 3 - 4 Ah, since they have enough energy for productive work, but at the same time they do not disturb the balance of the tool, like larger batteries. The weight of the jigsaw together with the battery, depending on its capacity, will be 2.7 - 3.0 kg (a bit too much by the standards of manual electric jigsaws, but this is a retribution for a reliable design with durable parts and the possibility of autonomous operation without wires).
