Model overview based on user reviews
The Canon PowerShot SX40 HS is a digital compact camera that offers a remarkable combination of features and performance at a reasonable price. Users appreciate its excellent zoom capabilities and optical stabilization, making it ideal for capturing distant and moving subjects. The camera is praised for its good color reproduction and versatility, suitable for both beginners and experienced photographers. While the automatic mode is considered less effective, manual settings provide better control and results. The camera's compact size and lighter weight compared to DSLRs make it a convenient choice for everyday use. However, some users note that the LCD monitor size and resolution are small by modern standards, and there can be noise in low light conditions. Overall, the SX40 HS is highly recommended for those seeking a versatile and reliable camera without the need for professional-grade equipment.

if you want a video camera, get it, and you will also have a good camera, you won’t regret it. As a camera, well, a superzoom is a superzoom, I’m pleased with how it can be compared with a DSLR, to each his own and for whom, these are two different tools. I chose slowly, looked at a lot on YouTube, chose it out of everything, price/quality ratio, and got two in one. I’ve been using it for six months, I’m happy, I recommend it..! Satisfied.... My palm doesn’t seem to be huge, but holding it in one hand takes some getting used to. |
An excellent camera for reportage photography, where capturing the moment is more important than super quality. It has a remarkable zoom and optics. To get something better, you would need a DSLR with a 3-kilogram lens costing around 1.5 thousand dollars. It offers instant focusing when shooting distant and then immediately wide-angle shots. A great tool for a photojournalist, an enthusiast of "sneak peeks," shooting competitions, and taking photos of yourself, family, bugs, and ships while on vacation. I worked with this camera for a year in all possible conditions. An excellent camera for all occasions. After grinding in, it’s easy to select modes for each individual case and train yourself to quickly select the right one. Automatic and completely manual settings are practically useless. The preset modes work great. Zoom and optics - God forbid any DSLR with a whale. Color rendition is good, making noise only in very poor light. Manually turning on the flash is extremely useful, a good stabilizer, shooting sports competitions is the element of this camera. If you don't mind the noise (for a slight enlargement when printing) and have some photography skills, you can photograph the goalie's tonsils from a kilometer away. You shouldn’t expect a picture comparable to a photo taken on a DSLR (meaning that the DSLR is not in the hands of a bluefish). Although it’s not difficult to achieve background blur for those who like it. In general, the impressions for three years are more than positive. Pros: zoom, stabilizer, color reproduction, battery, convenient menu and controls, continuous shooting, rotating screen, viewfinder, fast focusing. There is really nothing bad. The stabilizer when shooting video is not super effective, the auto mode is almost useless, there's noise in low light, and white balance errors which are fixable once you get used to manual settings. Strong distortion at the edges when shooting close objects, which can be corrected in a photo editor. |
Take it and you won’t regret it. Just pay attention to the country of manufacture. I paid more, but I took Canada-USA. I can’t vouch for China. In comparison with a DSLR (with the same technical characteristics): Lighter, more compact, much cheaper. Over 7 months of operation, 0 problems. The diameter of the hole for the mounting screw is small. It’s scary to put it on a tripod without safety nets. |
