Flocculants for swimming pools
Flocculant
— a chemical agent that increases the efficiency of water filtration.Mechanical filters are capable of retaining only relatively large particles, while small ones freely pass through them. As a result, already filtered water can still be cloudy and unpleasant for bathing. To avoid such phenomena, flocculants are used. Under the influence of such means, small contaminants stick together into large flakes, which are easily retained by a mechanical filter. In addition, many flocculants increase the effectiveness of disinfectants based on chlorine or oxygen (see relevant paragraphs).
Coagulants have a similar mechanism of action (see the relevant paragraph), sometimes there is no difference at all between these two types of chemistry. There really are no fundamental differences between them, however, on the one hand, flocculants produce larger particles that are better retained by filters, on the other hand, they require stopping the filtration systems in order for the drug to work effectively. However, sometimes the term "flocculant" can also refer to coagulants, so the features of the use of such agents in each specific case must be clarified separately.
