Waterskins
Waterskin
— vessels in the form of soft bags made of thick leather, a kind of forerunner of flexible flasks (see the relevant paragraph). At the same time, the classic wineskin has much larger volumes and, even empty, takes up more space due to thick walls. On the other hand, these walls provide increased resistance to punctures and scratches.Such vessels are notable for their original appearance; they are usually decorated in a hunting, historical or ethnic style. At the same time, in terms of practical properties, wineskins do not have any noticeable advantages over hard flasks and bottles. Moreover, soft walls can create inconvenience — for example, a bag of liquid cannot be placed vertically on a table or on the ground. Therefore, today wineskins are produced mainly as equipment for lovers of the original style mentioned, for whom appearance is no less important than practicality.
