— as the name implies, the main external feature of longboards is their long length. This makes these boards stable at high speeds; and the ability to reach such speeds is provided by large and soft wheels, which also smooth out road bumps well and provide a smooth ride. Longboards are precisely "high-speed" skateboards designed for fast driving — in particular, descending on sloping roads. But for stunts, this type is not suitable; only some subspecies of longboards (for example, "freestyle") allow the performance of individual elements such as simple jumps or drifting. Cruisers are also often referred to as longboards, but the latter have their specifics and should still be considered separately (see the relevant paragraph).
