The advantages of this option are obvious: it allows the boot to be optimally adjusted to the foot size, different people can take turns using the same pair, and for skates bought for a growing child, adjustable size is a real lifesaver; without it, they would have to be replaced every year. On the other hand, the adjustment complicates the boot's construction and reduces its strength, so this design has not become widespread in professional models ("aggressive", racing, etc.).
