Aluminium radiators
Aluminium radiators
— this category includes all-aluminium radiators and products that combine this material with copper.Aluminium has good specs: it is strong, light and surpasses steel in thermal conductivity and resistance to high pressure and water hammers. On the other hand, this material is demanding on the quality of the heating medium: the water (or other liquid) used must have a neutral pH, otherwise, a reaction with the release of hydrogen is possible (which adversely affects the radiator and can lead to clogging). It is also worth considering that not all aluminium products are designed for high pressure; this point needs to be specified separately.
A combination of this material with copper is found exclusively in convectors (see "Radiator type"): tubes are made of copper, along which the medium moves and aluminium is used for heat exchanger plates and housing. Copper has high reliability, including resistance to pressure drops and good thermal conductivity. The use of aluminium allows to reduce the cost and weight of the structure without sacrificing practical characteristics.
